2020 Junior Sharks squads announced
pre-season local derby this Saturday morning at Wakefield Park 9:30am
Come down to support the IBU Shark's first team in their second pre-season game of 2020 this time against Wellington United from the Capital Premier League.
This game is a particularly special one as it features Leonardo Villa, who most of you will know simply as Leo, playing for the opposition.
Leo is our head junior coach and is often seen around Wakefield nurturing our 5-15 year old junior and youth players.
For the junior players out there, one of the absolute treats of having Leo around is being able to witness him playing the “beautiful game”.
You are unlikely to see a player in our local competitions like Leo, having played to the heights of Serie B in the Italian league over several seasons. To see Leo gliding about the field directing, intervening and playing defence splitting passes is to see the work of a master. His feline presence on the field is truly the embodiment of Argentina’s famed Puma, prowling the midfield!
Good luck Leo, but not too much - the Sharks are going to be here to play!

Dawn of a New Age; the Prosser Era begins!
After yesterdays incredibly exciting news regarding Wynton Rufer’s nascent arrival at the club, today sees the dawn of a new era for the Island Bay United 1st team under the watchful eye of new coach James Prosser.
James’ reign begins today with a pre-season warm-up against Palmerston North Red Sox at Wakefield Park at 3:45pm.
James has brought an incredibly optimistic mood to the club due to both his personal positivity and also in securing the services of former club legends like Caleb Hilbron, not to mention connecting us with the aforementioned international footballing genius Wynton Rufer.
In paraphrasing Churchill, James imparted:
“This is not the beginning of the end nor is it the end of the beginning, no, it is the beginning of the beginning”
If you have some spare time today why not come down to Wakefield and bask in the windless balmy weather… you may just be witnessing the birth of a reformation with a renaissance to follow.

See you there!
Masters Registrations open for 2020
Masters football registration is now open! Inviting existing and new masters players to join the fastest growing area of Island Bay United!
Costs are $285 per player for the season, and we have 5 confirmed teams, ranging from Masters 2 to Masters 5. Each team has a minimum squad of 16 players, although most will carry a few more to allow for injuries and player unavailability.
Many existing players are local fathers of our junior members or long time friends of the club. Teams also range from competitive to social, but all teams have a great culture and want to go out and have some fun on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon.
New players are welcome as we are trying to build a new team this year, so feel free to contact our Masters Coordinator Rod Lawson. You may have played in the past, have been wanting to give football a go or just wanting to get back into doing something active on the weekends. Let us know a little about yourself and what you are wanting out of Masters football when you contact Rod.
Sill not sure, come down for one of the social training runs on a Wednesday night or Sunday morning to have a kick and make a call from there!
if you are a returning player, please register online at MyComet and you will be allocated to your team separately.

NEWSFLASH: Hilbron Returns!!!
Goal machine Caleb Hilbron is returning to IBU in 2020 to help in the 1st team's redemption season!
Coach James Prosser assesses the situation...
"Another massive player commitment that I'm extremely excited to have secured and proud to have back at the club. Caleb is an individual of strong moral character and personality who encompasses what the IBU club culture and ethos is all about. In addition to these positive characteristics, the Big Man is a force on the pitch. We expect Caleb to bring endless amounts of energy, passion and hopefully bunches of goals to help us reach our 1st team aspirations for the season. Welcome back Caleb, we are stoked to have you home!!”

Caleb adds
"I'm excited to be back apart of the IBU club family at the beginning of a long-term project and I desire to perform to the best of my abilities in all capacities required of me.I'm looking forward to being around this great club and patrons such as Mike [Gaeta], John Barton and Paul Muollo who have left big impressions upon me as a player and person, as well as with James Prosser, who has made the decision to come back an easy one."
Ruari Cahill-Fluery returns to the 1st team for the 2020
Island Bay United are proud to announce the return of Ruari Cahill-Fluery to the 1st team for the 2020 season as we seek an immediate return to the Capital Premier grade.
New coach James Prosser commented "I'm extremely excited to have a former IBU youth product, Wellington Phoenix reserve and national league player helping lead our 1st team ranks. I believe Ruari is a massive asset to the club and community as both a person and player and I'm personally stoked to have him on board"
Ruari countered "Fantastic to have someone with Prosser's experience on board. It shows the club is committed to pushing for a return to Cap Prem and playing an exciting brand of football out on the Wakefield turf whilst doing it" :-)
Stay tuned for more news about the re-formation of the 1sts over the next couple of months

Island Bay United complete coaching line-up by welcoming back James Prosser
We are extremely pleased to announce Leonardo (Leo) Villa will continue with IBU, and will head up the development of our juniors and youth players in 2020. Leo is excited about taking the lead on the focus of developing our junior and youth players across all of the club. He is very keen to see greater involvement in all teams across those grades, and bringing to them some of his Argentinian flair!
In addition to Leo, we will be joined by James Prosser to head up development of our youth players and coach our senior firsts team in 2020. James previously coached at IBU taking the first team back in the day that Paul Muollo reigned supreme! He is excited at being back at IBU and working on building a competitive line up for the 2020 season, while continuing to develop our senior youth players, as the stars of tomorrow. James has been responsible for bring over to NZ several US university coaches, and also for getting scholarships for local players into US universities (including ex-IBU player, Will Forrest).
Leo and James will be supported by Jack Doyle who joined us in 2019 and will work across various teams in the club. Thanks and welcome back Jack!
13th grade Sharks take out term 4 U13 futsal crown
Congratulations to the 13th grade Sharks who in their last competitive game of futsal together won the term 4 u13 futsal crown at ASB.. they were faced with the daunting task of making up a goal deficit of 24 but achieved that with aplomb by beating a young but game Onslow side 39-1... But the real tale of the title came the previous week when they beat arch rivals Samba Futsal Club 6-5 in a nail biter after leading 6-2 at the break... The team has achieved 4 titles after starting their futsal journey at the end of 9th grade... Since then there have been many goals and many great victories... I hope you all have many happy memories of your times together and the very best of luck as you start your college careers in 2020
Anna McCarthy wins NZ selection

Registration and Sign In
We are operating under the direction of NZF / Capital Football. Registration is online via the link above. We need parents to supply emergency contact numbers and medical information. We require parents to sign children in for the start off the session as we also need to know how your child is to be picked up and by whom.
Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session starts.
What do I need to bring?
1. training shoes or boots (both work well on the turf)
2. shin pads
3. trackies, hoodies, beanies, jackets (all named) etc. in case the weather gets hotter or colder or wetter – just typical Wellington
If it rains we do not cancel, the programme will be based inside the clubrooms until the weather allows us outside again.
You will need to supply your own lunch. Please come prepared as the club café will not be open. We traditionally hold a shared lunch on the last day.
Our experience is that unless the weather is really horrible the kids want to play outside so a change of dry clothes is a good thing to bring if there is rain about… and sunblock…. don’t forget your sunblock!
What will be supplied?
· Great coaches – depending on exact numbers a ratio of approximately one coach to 14 children is our aim.
· Balls – We’ve got plenty
What will we do?
The emphasis of the holiday programme is on having fun and playing lots of football. We will do our best to place players with their friends or with players of a similar age and skill level.
Each session will have a warm-up, a skills session, a short morning/afternoon tea break, lunch in the clubrooms and lots of game time. Mostly we hope the kids will have fun with their friends and make new ones
Payment should be made into the club account below
- $40 per full day
