Liberato Cacace Youth Medal

Island Bay United is a club with a proud 90 year old history in our local community.

In the junior space our strapline  “encouraging participation and supporting excellence” endevours to communicate our dual responsibilities to help young players have fun and develop a passion for the  beautiful game as well as supporting the needs of aspirational players amongst that group.

The club is more than proud to count Liberato Cacace as one of our alumni. Having just turned 21, Liberato is already our most famous son. His humble, down to earth nature allied to his playing attributes and achievements, on both club and international stages, make him an obvious exemplar for our youth players as they strive to be the best footballing versions of themselves.

In 2021 we celebrate our connection to Liberato with the introduction of the Liberato Cacace Youth medal or “Libby“. The Libby is awarded each year to the one player per age group, across the 3 Youth grades, whose performances best embody the following four playing characteristics that we associate with Liberato, namely:

  • Strength

  • Technique

  • Consistency &

  • Fearlessness

Selected by the TDP coaches the recipients of the Libby will not necessarily have scored the most goals or be the most skillful player but are more than likely to be the hardest workers and best listeners as Liberato was during his time at Island Bay.
